In this thesis, I wish to analyze Queer and Junky, mostly focusing on the representation and connection between addiction, love and control. My thesis is that the lack of company and community Lee felt during his life is actually due to his never ending need to change himself, and his ultimate need to be someone else, which manifests itself in Yagé. I would like to focus on Junky and Queer as two parts of a continuous story, but I will also examine Burroughs’s other early works, such as Interzone and Naked Lunch, to support and clarify certain points in my thesis.
