The investigation into the emerging vasodilator drugs has inspired the investigation into the mechanisms that control the pathophysiology of hypertension and how the different drugs leveraged different mechanisms to correct the process of blood pressure regulation. The paper outlines the four main mechanisms responsible for the control and regulations of blood pressure to include the arterial baroreceptor system, vascular autoregulation, the renin- angiotensin-aldosterone system, and the regulation of body fluid volume. While these mechanisms work collaboratively to control blood pressure, many vasodilation drugs have been designed to interrupt and disturb the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Generally, vasodilators are not designed to solely treat hypertension as they can treat a wide range of illnesses from eclampsia, preeclampsia, hypertension, and heart attack. The new drugs have leveraged the stabilizing mechanisms for the RAS in an attempt to alleviate the negative impacts of the current drugs.
