The university life is an ideal place for health promoting behaviour and gaining health literacy skills. Health literacy (HL) entails people’s knowledge, motivation and competences to access, understand, appraise and apply health information in order to make judgments and take decisions. It is important because higher level of HL is connected with better health outcomes. The aim of this cross sectional study (n=152) in November 2017 was to measure and assess HL among international students between three courses at the Faculty of Public Health, University of Debrecen, Hungary. According to our knowledge this was the first survey related to HL among the international students at our university. An anonymous paper-based questionnaire was constructed to collect demographic and health related data and health literacy questions based upon 2 scales (Health Literacy Measures for Adolescent - HELMA, Newest Vital Sign - NVS). From the variables we can assess the level of health literacy and analyse the differences regarding courses (BSc of Physiotherapy, BPT; BSc of Public Health, BPH; MSc of Public Health, MPH) with ANOVA, chi square test and 95% confidence interval (CI).hu_HU
