Herders who are the target population of this research make up most of the Mongolian population and migrate during the four seasons of the year. The quality of care in this high-risk population could be improved by applying equipment for self-measurement of blood pressure, since it is well known that self-monitoring can improve the medication adherence. Despite the self-monitoring equipment’s usage is getting popular over the last few decades in Mongolia, little is known about self-monitoring related knowledge and practice and its influence on anti-hypertensive drug-adherence. The main aim of this study was (1) to describe the knowledge, attitude, and practice about self-measurement of blood pressure among nomad herders with diagnosed hypertension in Ulgii soum, Uvs province, Mongolia; (2) to evaluate the influence of these factors on therapeutic adherence, (3) and to provide intervention target for decision makers in order to improve quality of hypertension care for nomad herders.
