This thesis aims to summarise the currently available information on new and emerging pharmacologic therapies in the management of PCOS and its associated fertility. This thesis discusses PCOS as an endocrinological disorder that affects women of reproductive age, where the ovaries produce an abnormal number of androgens which results in menstrual abnormalities, infertility, and other PCOS-associated symptoms. As it is a condition of high prevalence, efforts to alleviate the symptoms and improve the quality of life of women with PCOS have been made. This thesis presents the pharmacological options that are currently available and emerging in the management of PCOS and its associated infertility. The current mode of pharmacological treatment includes Contraceptives, anti-androgens, insulin sensitisers, and ovulation inducers. Newly emerging drugs targeting different suspected mechanisms in the aetiology of PCOS are in focus, such as Inositol because they are naturally occurring in the body and their effects on both insulin sensitisation and androgen production, GnRH antagonist for the management of infertility and many more. This Paper provides a clear summary of the available literature about the current and the newly emerging therapy, it also provides information about their mechanism of action and their possible side effects.
