This thesis encompasses certain parallels between the Western movie genre and the Star Wars universe, with special emphasis on the classic Westerns released before the mid 1970's and the original Star Wars trilogy respectively. Both genres are manifestations of the American national myth and the imaginary Frontier landscape. As the decades passed the two previously mentioned notions started to fade away and taking action became necessary. The Westerns and the so called 'sci-fi Western' Star Wars were transformed into life jackets the drowning American population desperately needed, to regain their sense of purpose in the World and to, yet again, create a national identity.
