Parkinson’s disease is a common progressive neurodegenerative disease of the dopaminergic neurons within the substantia nigra pars compacta resulting in an altered motor movement.

It affects as many as 1-2% of population of whom are mostly elderly above the age of 60 years old. The symptoms emerge slowly, with time it becomes disabling and interferes with daily life.

The cause of Parkinson's disease is not known, however, a number of genetic risk factors together with environmental influences have been linked to alter and increase the risk of developing Parkinson's disease
