Absztrakt

Childhood trauma is a widespread psychological and public health concern that can have long-term effects on emotional, cognitive, and behavioral functioning. It refers to exposure to adverse experiences during early development, including physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, and unstable or unsafe environments. These experiences can significantly disrupt a child's sense of safety and stability and may continue to affect individuals well into adulthood (Hughes et al., 2017; Benjet et al., 2016). The World Health Organization has recognized childhood trauma as a global issue, highlighting its impact on mental health and overall well-being (WHO, 2022). Childhood trauma is not only a psychological concern but also a major global public health issue. Studies have shown that exposure to multiple adverse childhood experiences is associated with increased risk of chronic physical conditions, including cardiovascular disease, substance misuse, and reduced life expectancy (Hughes et al., 2017; Abate et al., 2024). These findings highlight the far-reaching consequences of early adversity, extending beyond mental health to broader aspects of physical and social functioning. As such, addressing childhood trauma is essential for improving overall health outcomes across the lifespan.
