First Wave of Chinese Immigrants in the North American Continent and in the United States of America in 18th and 19th centuries

Abstract

In this thesis, I mainly focus on the factors which prevented the assimilation of Chinese immigrants to mainstream American society and on different forms of Chinese associations, such as the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Associations or the Tongs. In the last chapter of my thesis I also write briefly about the various fields of work that were done by Chinese immigrants.
