The technological revolution and the incredible growth of the consumer society completely transformed the life of Americans, but probably the most important event of the after war years was the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the US Constitution. This Amendment granted the voting right to women, which was the first major step towards their true equality. In my thesis, I intend to focus on women’s fashion of the decade, usually called “flapper fashion” after this typical woman who appeared at that time, and its connection with their controversial position during the 1920s in America. We can draw a lot of parallels between fashion and the position of women and we can also see how they mutually affect each other. Although flapper fashion was relatively short-lived, it had a great influence on the future of the fashion world and also on the way people, mainly men, looked at women from this time on. These years brought great achievements for women, but with these achievements came completely new problems that they had to face and tackle somehow.hu_HU
