Miss Marple, Spinster and Detective

Abstract

Although Christie is considered a conservative writer, there are many issues in her books that can be seen as forward-looking. The treatment of feminine concerns and spinsterhood is ambiguous in Christie: in many ways, she subscribes the dominant ideological and political stereotypes; while also questioning and subverting them.
