This thesis explores various aspects of maintaining dental alignment post-orthodontic intervention. It emphasizes the critical role of retention strategies, including both fixed and removable retainers, in preventing relapse. The study highlights the importance of patient compliance and tailoring retention approaches to individual needs. It also discusses the influence of local and systemic factors such as age, bone density, periodontal health, nutrition, genetics, and hormonal changes on orthodontic outcomes. Technological advancements like clear aligners and finite element method analysis are credited with improving the precision of tooth movement. Additionally, the document covers alternative stabilization techniques, such as twistflex retainers and surgically accelerated orthodontics, while addressing the associated risks and complications, including impacts on periodontal health and challenges in managing postoperative infections.
