This thesis examines the prevalence, types, risk factors, and impacts of psychological illnesses during pregnancy and the perinatal period. It discusses common psychiatric disorders, including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, and postpartum psychosis. The thesis explores the effects of these conditions on maternal well-being, pregnancy outcomes, fetal development, and infant health. It also highlights the importance of early recognition, appropriate screening, and accurate diagnosis. Available management approaches, including psychotherapy, pharmacological treatment, social support, and lifestyle modifications, are reviewed, with consideration of maternal and fetal safety. The thesis emphasizes the importance of comprehensive, individualized care to improve mental health outcomes for mothers and their children.
