dc.description.abstractThis work is a scientific review of the uses and effect of medicinal herbs in the management of diabetes mellitus. Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder which results in impaired body function if not managed adequately. Most oral hypoglycemics used currently in the management of diabetes have various side effects which may make patient's compliance difficult but most herbs are readily available, cheaper and can be incorporated in their already established daily routine such as meals or cups of tea. Effects of the herbs were reviewed and their herb-drug interactions taken into consideration. It was shown that most of the herbs have a synergistic effect with some hypoglycemics in lowering blood glucose levels both fasting levels and after meals.hu_HU
