Use of insulin and its analogues in pregnancies complicated by diabetes mellitus
Absztrakt
Untreated pregnancies complicated by diabetes often ends with maternal, fetal and neonatal complications. Thus, to reach desirable outcomes, tight glycemic control is required. Insulin is the cornerstone of modern diabetic pregnancy treatment. In the past, only human insulins were available but with the introduction of recombinant technology new insulin analogues are now available.With increase in diabetic incidence and rise of new insulin analogues and formulations, the chances of diabetic women in the reproductive age group using newer insulins are increasing.This thesis reviews the use, safety and efficiency of both long and short acting insulin analogues during pregnancy.
