In this paper, I am going to outline some driving forces and motives initiating the arduous task of inventing languages through a general account of constructed language types, followed by sections about well-known examples of logical, international and artistic invented languages including brief overviews about the inventors, purposes and basic morphology of these languages with special attention paid to Tolkien’s Elvish language, the Quenya. Finally, the outcome of the theoretical journey among constructed languages is a glossing analysis of one of the most tarnished Quenya poems written by Tolkien.
