In the first part of my paper I will explore how the interpretations of Oleanna have gone through a transformation from its premiere in 1992 to the present and I will also indicate how these reactions might reflect the status of PC. I will analyse reviews of productions for this purpose. In the second part I will employ critical discourse analysis to reveal the deconstructive tendencies of the play, which undermine conventional power structures, such as institutional, cultural and gender-based hierarchies. Finally, I will combine the result of the previous two sections and conclude that the radically limited interpretations of the play at the beginning of the 1990s could be explained by its tendencies of deconstructing traditional organizing forces of the society and thus carrying postmodern and feminist aspects. The cause of the counterassault can be considered as targeted against this charge of the play. The more balanced reactions of later years however reflect that the reconceptualization of social hierarchies were well in advance, thus both postmodernism and feminism had been given greater credit.hu_HU
