In my thesis I have tried to sum up the ideas of Jung about self-knowledge and Personality and put these theories in the perspective of Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea saga. Taking Ged as the subject of analysis I followed his development from the time of his childhood and first encounter with the Shadow, through his youth when he, being the greatest wizard of Earthsea, lives up to his role as a Hero, till the “second part of life” (Jung) when he – after he experiences a mid-life crisis – reaches unity of Self as nothing more than an old goatherd.
