The thesis explores the current and future pharmacological approaches to pain management. It begins by outlining pain anatomy and physiology, currently used analgesics, and current treatment protocols. This is followed by some ethical and practical considerations of pain management and new and emerging pharmacological approaches to pain management including new and emerging drugs and drug targets.
