Increased prevalence of T2DM worldwide has caused this metabolic condition to now reach an epidemic stage. Overweight and more importantly obesity, can result in insulin resistance giving rise to T2DM. T2DM, if untreated can result in severe complications. Adipokines showing potential in treating insulin resistance, are currently a topic of interest in treating insulin resistance induced by obesity.
