This paper discusses the design and realization of an automated storage system utilizing racks and stacker cranes. Factory IO was used for the modelling, and TwinCAT was used for the management of Programmable Logic Controller control, facilitating the automation of storage and retrieval processes. The focus of this paper includes the analysis of the of the completed project, the review of the relevant literature on common elements of automated storage systems, and presenting the technical knowledge required for building the system. By focusing on the system’s technical foundation, the paper aims to present a viable solution for automated storage and retrieval processes in industrial environments.
