Acute MI is the main reason damaging the myocardium and a potentially life-threatening situation. This type of cardiac damage is mostly characterized in individuals with STEMI who show signs of myocardial ischemia, which should be treated quickly and effectively with attempts to improve myocardial perfusion either by thrombolytic therapy or PCI. Rupture of the atheromatous plaque, intra-plaque hemorrhage and intraluminal thrombus are the main pathological mechanisms causing the MI.
