| dc.description.abstract | This study investigates university website openness as a quality signal in the higher education market using a sample of top 200 QS-ranked universities. Employing a multidimensional signaling framework and multiple regression analysis, the research reveals that academic reputation and works count are the most robust positive predictors of openness. Interestingly, a significant negative correlation between citations per paper and web openness suggests a strategic trade-off between resource quantity and individual research intensity. Furthermore, signaling effectiveness is found to be highly context-dependent, showing greater sensitivity to subject-specific ranks than overall prestige. Comparison across national backgrounds (USA vs. UK) and institutional tiers further validates the separating equilibrium mechanism. Ultimately, web openness serves as a dynamic, strategic tool for elite universities to differentiate themselves in the global academic competition. | |
