The deteriorating security situation at the EU border including the Syrian and the Russia-Ukraine crisis have led to the rise in the number of refugee inflows into the region. This coming at a time when the region's economy is struggling makes it necessary to include refugees in the European Commission's policy agenda. There have been several misconceptions about refugee inflow including the fact that they consume the regions resources, take away jobs belonging to locals and cause a decrease in wages. To address such misconceptions, there is need to conduct proper research to evaluate the effect of refugees on the economic and social development of the region. This paper analyzes some of the challenges encountered by refugees in their quest to integrate into the EU labour market.
