Management studies are generally saturated by research that focus on business organizations, overshadowing the significant role of non-profit civil society organizations (CSOs). In democratic societies, CSOs have an important role as key actors, and in Kosovo, sport CSOs represent the largest category of NGOs. Thus, the purpose of this study is to present the management dimension of sport CSOs in Kosovo, specifically the organizational capacities and leadership. By designing the methodology in concurrent mixed methods, this research incorporated qualitative and quantitative techniques for data collection. These data originate from a survey with 238 leaders of sports NGOs, 19 semi structured interviews and data from documents and credible sources used as secondary data. The results indicate that approximately 10% surveyed sport CSOs in Kosovo are small in terms of members, most of them based in urban areas, face challenges in financial capacities depending heavily on external sources and lack decent infrastructure access and conditions. The research found minimal correlations between financial and HR capacities, but found that larger organizations are correlated to having more collaborations, better access and conditions of infrastructure, and planning capacity is correlated to financial and HR variables. The research also reveals a high level of transformational leadership, which correlates positively with the number of volunteers, the capacity to develop strategic plans, and board members participation in decision-making. Finally, the significance of this research is providing novel explanations on leadership and organizational capacities of sport organizations, highlighting significant correlations between leadership style and organizational strategic planning, volunteer engagement and decision-making participation.
