dc.description.abstract | The thesis "Antitumor Effects of Cannabinoid Derivatives on Breast Cancer Cell Lines" written by Chukwudi Ojelubechukwu Chioma investigates the antitumor effects of newly synthesized cannabinoid derivatives on breast cancer cell lines. The experimental work focuses on two types of cell lines: MDA-MB-231 (triple-negative breast cancer cell line) and MCF-7 (hormone-receptor positive breast cancer cell line), assessing cytotoxicity of twelve CBD (Cannabidiol) and CBG (Cannabigerol) derivatives. These compounds were synthesized via a Mannich-type reaction and tested using the MTT cell viability assay at different concentrations and time points. Results revealed that CBD derivatives like PFD43I and PFD10/AI were particularly effective against MDA-MB-231, while PFD45I (CBG) and PFD11/A (CBD) had strong effects in reducing the MCF-7 cell viability. The six most potent compounds underwent further IC50 testing, which showed that CBG derivatives had the best effect overall. The findings support further investigation into these compounds as potential breast cancer therapies, with future research aimed at a deeper exploration into their molecular mechanisms. | |
