In the history of Ireland there is a reoccurring pattern for the uproar of the discontented people. Call it a rebellion, a rising, or a revolution – in Ireland there were always renewed attempts to achieve freedom by fighting. That was also the case in the spring of 1916, when a one-week rebellion was fought on the streets of Dublin, known as the Easter Rising. Before 1916, the last major rebellion was in 1798, but there were smaller uprisings between these dates as well. Although the Easter Rising of 1916 is considered to be only an insignificant military failure, it is ironic, how great a part it played in the shaping of Irish history afterwards.
