The Integration of Women Into the U.S. Military from 1775 to Today
Absztrakt
This paper will provide a thorough historical overview to present the status of women in the U.S. military and the positions women could serve in, and shed light on the small changes that affected women’s place and the attitude towards them then and now. The contemporary period will be discussed drawing on the responses and personal experiences of those women who are actively serving today, digging deeper into the question of equality, mainly focusing on what it means and how it can be fully achieved. The paper will conclusively discuss whether the complete and total integration of women had happened or not, and whether the women who are actively serving think that equality was reached within the walls of the military. This paper does not focus on a specific branch of the American armed forces but investigates the issue collectively, providing examples from all of the military branches.
