Obesity has been increasingly recognized as a chronic disease which may result in substantial metabolic dysfunction and elevated cardiovascular risk. In turn, pharmacotherapy may be an important adjunctive strategy in appropriately selected patients. This thesis examined the mechanisms of action, clinical effectiveness, safety considerations, and ethical implications of current and emerging anti-obesity drugs. Recent therapeutic discoveries, such as incretin-based therapies and multi-receptor agonists, have demonstrated clinically significant weight loss and metabolic improvements, representing significant progress in medical treatment. However, ongoing challenges remain, including long-term safety, treatment sustainability and financial costs.
