Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial process. The onset of the pathogenesis is thought to stem from endothelial injury leading to endothelial dysfunction. The prevention of atherosclerosis is primarily by implementing exercise and diet plans. Some natural remedies such as garlic can be administered for long term continual prevention. The drugs of choice for lipid-lowering therapy are statins. Second-line drugs are, for instance, niacin, fibrates, and inhibitors of cholesterol absorption.hu_HU
