This thesis explores the structure and transformation of Ghana’s textile industry in the context of the global fast fashion phenomenon. It examines how the rapid growth of fast fashion has led to increased clothing waste, much of which is exported to Ghana as second-hand garments. The study highlights the severe environmental, social, and economic impacts of this trend, including pollution, poor-quality imports, and labor exploitation. It identifies a significant research gap concerning the historical and contemporary development of Ghana’s fashion industry. Finally, the thesis emphasizes the importance of adopting sustainable solutions such as slow fashion and circular economy practices to promote a more resilient and environmentally responsible textile sector.
