In my thesis I will examine the freak shows with the help of a contemporary movie, The Greatest Showman. Freaks received significant attention in the 19th century, therefore this period of time can be considered as the most thriving era of freak shows, which has had such a significant heritage to the modern world that its effect still can be felt. In my thesis I will analyse the Greatest Showman from the aspect of representation drawing a parallel with Barnum’s freak shows and characters’ appearance, stating that it highly idealizes the past and rather creates an entertaining biopic musical movie which is about the celebration of humanity.hu_HU
