    Dalok feldolgozása az angolórákon

    A dalfeldolgozásoknak köszönhetően a tanulási élmény sokkal kellemesebb, nő a tanulók motivációja és örömmel tanulják a nyelvet. A dalokban előforduló ismétlések miatt pedig külön erőfeszítés nélkül is megjegyzik a tanulók az egyes elemeket. Úgy fejlődik a nyelvi szintjük és a kulturális kompetenciájuk, hogy észre sem veszik, hogy erre külön időt szánnak. A dalfeldolgozás számos módon történhet, így a tanárok számára is remek lehetőségeket rejtenek a dalok. A szakdolgozatomban a dalfeldolgozás részletes bemutatása után az általam készített és kipróbált óraterveket mutatom be, a felépítésüket és a megvalósításukat illetően.

    This article is about the history and methodology of person-centered planning related social work with people with disabilites. My goal is to present the underlying values and princples of the person-centered theory together with practice. I would like to give some example to the practice from international experiences and articles since we don’t use person-centered planning in Hungary (yet). Furthermore I analyze what kind of difficulties we have to consider when we think of using this method in our country, and if it would be possible to apply it during the course of deinstitualization.

    Szakdolgozatom témája a különböző értékelési formák alkalmazása az angol és orosz órákon. Összefüggő gyakorlatom során a diákok szóbeli teljesítményének értékelését vizsgáltam, szem előtt tartva azt a szempontot, hogy ne a tanár legyen az értékelés egyedüli forrása. Munkámat nagyban segítették az angol és orosz szakmódszertan órán megszerzett ismeretek és tapasztalatok. A gyakorlat során végzett vizsgálatom eredményei azt igazolják, hogy mind a tanulási, mind az értékelési folyamatot hatékonyabbá teheti, ha a tanulók véleményt formálhatnak saját és társaik szóbeli produktumáról. Megfelelő tanári előkészítéssel a diákok sokszor egymás reflexióiból legalább annyit épülhetnek, mint a pedagógus visszajelzéseiből. A vizsgált csoportjaimnál azt kívántam alátámasztani, hogy akkor lehet igazán hatékony egy visszacsatolás, amennyiben az elsődlegesen a tanulók egyéni fejlődését szolgálja. Ez azt jelenti, hogy részletes tájékoztatást nyújt arról, hol tart a diák az adott pillanatban és az aktuális szóbeli teljesítménye milyen mértékű fejlődést mutat korábbi megnyilvánulásaihoz viszonyítva.

    How to Use Literature in the Second Language Classroom

    In this paper, I discuss the role of culture in the second language classroom. I focus on one specific part of culture which is literature. I claim that it is of great importance to incorporate the teaching of culture and literature into the second language class since they help to increase cultural awareness, understand cultural similarities and differences. They also help to decrease the risks of misunderstanding, which is often rooted in unknown cultural differences. The aim of language teaching is to raise adaptable, tolerant and sensitive citizens, and literature and culture contribute to this process.

    Motivating Upper-Primary School English Foreign Language Learners by Enhancing Autonomy

    This thesis focuses on the issue of motivating learners, especially upper-primary level English language learners. The topic is relevant since learners’ first experiences in language learning might influence their further studies, thus motivating them and make them like the language is essential. The thesis also deals with enhancing autonomy as a way of motivating learners, more specifically, defining learner autonomy, especially in the upper-primary school language classes, the relationship between motivation and autonomy, and why is it advisable to teach learners to become autonomous. There are four case studies on young, European EFL learners in this paper, which are compared and contrasted in terms of what motivates young learners, as well as in terms of the presence of autonomous principles in those classes. Finally, my teaching experiences are demonstrated as regards how I managed to implement the findings of the comparisons of the four case studies in my 60 hours teaching practice.

    Motivation in Foreign Language Learning: English and German Learners in Focus

    Foreign language learning plays a significant role in our multicultural environment. It is especially important for secondary school students, who learn two foreign languages simultaneously, which are usually English and German. The attitude and motivation of students is probably different in case of the two languages, but language learning motivation can influence and contribute to the success of language learning. The concept of motivation, its components and possible interpretations are examined in the first part of this study. In the second part, the studies and results of Hungarian researchers are presented in the topic of language learning motivation, which examined students of English and German. In the third part, motivation is studied through secondary school students of English and German. Their language learning aims, attitudes towards foreign language learning, as well as their instrumental and sociocultural orientations are examined.

    Secondary School Learners’ Foreign Language Learning Motivation

    My thesis focuses on secondary school learners’ foreign language learning motivation. It examines how students become motivated and what they are interested in the Hungarian educational system. It also deals with how language exams and extra points for further education influence students’ motivation in secondary school. Furthermore, it analyses the fields that secondary school learners are interested in. The aim of the study was to get a varied picture about the topic, so the questionnaire was filled by students of two different types of secondary school classes. One of the classes was an advanced foreign language class, whereas the second class was a class specializing in national security.

    The analysis of vlogs from language learners' perspective

    The purpose of this paper is to analyze vlogs focusing on language learners’ vocabulary expansion, motivation, and autonomy. The paper first defines and describes vlogs since they are a relatively new type of content. Then, various aspects of vocabulary acquisition related to learning words from these videos are reviewed based on the research done on learning new vocabulary in general. The paper also considers the merits of vlogs from the perspective of increasing language learners’ motivation and autonomy. Furthermore, the idea of keeping a portfolio of words learnt from vlogs is described in detail as well. Finally, the paper includes the analysis of a sample vlog in order to demonstrate how vlogs might help students learn new vocabulary items.

    The Bluebeard Motif Reflected in the Eyes of Margaret Atwood

    The Bluebeard fairy tale has influenced several spheres of art from the seventeenth century till now. It has preserved its fame in music, visual representations and literature through centuries, which shows the Bluebeard motif’s huge didactic, aesthetic, cultural and social power. I have chosen to explore the art of Margaret Atwood in the light of the Bluebeard story, which is a key influence on her visual representations, poems, shorts stories and novels. Among her various artistic creations infiltrated by the Bluebeard motif, I decided to analyze the following ones: her illustration entitled “Death as a Bride,” her poem, “Hesitations outside the door,” two of her short stories –“Bluebeard’s Egg” and “Uglypuss”- and her novel, Alias Grace.

    The Effects of Fairy Tales on Children and Society

    Fairy tales have always played a crucial role in children’s lives. Parents tell children tales from the day they are born either to make them fall asleep or just to entertain them. Many say that today’s fairy tales are about influencing people’s ideology from the early beginnings by putting out a role model for young women and children and also by maintaining gender roles in a patriarchal worldview. In my thesis I am mainly focusing on the gender roles, the concept of good vs. evil and the importance of feminine beauty, in fairy tales, more specifically, in the Cinderella story; moreover, on the impact of all these on children`s moral values and world view.

    The thesis covers two main sections and seven subsections. The main topic discussed is the second language acquisition process and the importance of having a theoretical knowledge about the topic as a language teacher. The other main direction that the paper follows is the explanation and description of learning styles.The second main topic covered is language learning styles and their relevance in teaching as a profession.
