The Magic Toyshop is a brave and resurgent postmodern work of art in which the autocracy of the patriarchal society puts its mark on a micro-community’s development. Carter positions autocracy in the changing atmosphere of the 1960s which gives the reader an even bigger shock when coming to terms with the ruling system’s deformation.
