The most obvious conclusion is that online dictionaries are beginning to replacing print ones. We can then conclude that the future of lexicography, as far as these free online dictionaries are concerned, is full of hope. It is another matter whether these sources of knowledge are reliable enough linguistically and whether its language is accurate enough. We feel the necessity to introduce some kind of orientation on online dictionary usage since students may not be familiar even with the print dictionary. Our personal and professional experience as a teacher trainee reinforces this fact. One may wonder if adolescents in Hungarian secondary grammar schools use more the internet or their mobile phones (with dictionary software downloaded) to look up unknown words and expressions, how many books they will read in English? Will it motivate them to persevere when they encounter new vocabulary items while reading? Let us hope the best but prepare for the worst: let us teach learners of English at any level how to use online dictionaries but encourage them to open print dictionaries as well whenever it is possible in this rapidly changing world.
