With this writing my aim is to open the door of American women’s wardrobes and take a sneak peek into them so that I will investigate the connection of womanhood, fashion, femininity and feminism in the 1920s, 1950s and 1960s onward, up until the present days. I am going to prove that a process of separation between femininity and feminism occurres in the three waves of feminism, which is reflected in fashion. As I see it femininity equals to the notion of being fashionable so my main goal will be to catch the quintessence of female ideals and beauty images parallel or uncorresponding to feminist ideas and views in the before mentioned times.
