As the result of the colonial oppression and discrimination of Native American tribes I will investigate in my thesis the causes of identity crisis, frustration, and alcoholism. Homi K. Bhabha regarded the phenomena of stereotyping, discrimination and mimicry as the major strategies of the colonial discourse that were meant to sustain this colonial oppression. The examples of Abel and Laurel illustrate the feelings of Native American people in the cities, and also their difficulties in the harsh and alien environment.
