Absztrakt

Mysteries trigger the feelings of excitement and thrill; hence it is little wonder that crime fiction – as thematizing the quest of solving a mystery and playing with the nature of secret – has been an extremely popular literary genre since its birth in the Victorian era. The secret frames the narration of the crime fiction as the whole story is built upon the riddle of who, how and why committed the criminal act. Thus the elements and the peculiar structure of a detective story, the point of view technique and the role of the narrator is extremely significant when studying detective fiction. This paper examines the above mentioned concepts by analyzing and using the Sherlock Holmes stories as a basis.
