This dissertation discusses children's acquisition of number words. I overview several studies that examine these processes and the different stages that children go through to acquire the meanings of these words. Number words differ from other linguistic items in interesting ways and by examining closely when and how children acquire them, we can gain a special perspective on language acquisition itself.
