My primary source is Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (2010).In my thesis, I analyze the role of cinematic storytelling in the process of Alice becoming a female hero as well as the in-between states and places she finds herself and establishes her personality. The first chapter is centred on the first few scenes of Alice in Wonderland, which are meant to set the context for Alice to become a hero through describing the social and personal factors related to her. The second chapter explains the in-between states Alice finds herself and develops herself as a character. The final chapter is mostly concerned with the question of femininity since Alice as a female character taking traditionally masculine gender roles can be considered problematic.
