Obesity is a medical condition where excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may negatively impact the health status of an individual. Numerous diseases are associated with obesity with the major ones being heart diseases and diabetes. Highlighting the importance of managing obesity properly with comprehensive lifestyle interventions (dietary therapy, behavioral therapy, and physical activity), pharmacotherapy and bariatric surgery in order to reduce the risk factors and comorbidities that are associated with obesity.
