The purpose of this thesis is to follow the transformation of the hero characters placed in a milieu of war based on war films that put the emphasis on rescuer heroes, such as Saving Private Ryan and Hacksaw Ridge (2016). Heroism is often connected to masculinity, therefore the examination starts with the characterisation of the soldiers as masculine individuals and as members of a military corps.
