Bronchial Asthma in Childhood: Complications, Pharmacological and Non-Pharmacological Treatments.

Asthma is a chronic respiratory childhood disease, which features airway inflammation, airway hyper-responsiveness and bronchoconstriction. Cough, Wheezing, Dyspnea, Chest tightness and Agitation are typical symptoms of Asthma. Asthma can be atopic (allergy-related with positive family history) or non-atopic (non-allergy-related). Asthma poses several complications like chest pain, poor sleep, constant fatique, cardio-toxicity, status asthmaticus and subcutaneous emphysema. Its treatment include inhaled SABA, low dose ICS, Montelukast, Theophylline, Omalizumab, Tiotropium, Dupilumab, Bronchial thermoplasty, which are dependent on the severity of the asthma. Acupuncture, relaxation techniques, herbs (Ganoderma lucidum) and diet are also used in treatment and are quite effective.
