Desertification and land degradation are the most important issues that the Aravalli Range in India is currently tackling. The denudation of the forest cover near Delhi NCR region is most affected due to recent growth of settlements and loss of natural vegetation, among many other factors. To restore the ecological balance of these areas and prevent further land degradation, it is crucial to know the direction of change in the vegetation pattern and how it’s affected by climate change. The aim of this research is to monitor land degradation and desertification in the Aravalli Range around Delhi, India, in recent years (2000-17) by assessing the variations in vegetation, using MODIS NDVI, and climatic factors (temperature and precipitation) as both independent and dependent variables.
