This thesis analyzes the morality and ethics of gangsters and their cinematic representation, the historical background, the Roaring Twenties, including the twisted American Dream of gangsters. In the beginning, the focus is on the historical background of organized crime. In the following chapters I concentrated on the glorified image of gangsters through several movies. In the last chapter, the perception of gangsters is also presented through the perspective of the authorities.
