Absztrakt

The goal of thesis was to create tablets with metronidazole as the API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) that performed well in 3 major tests: hardness, friability, and dissolution. Five different tablet compositions were prepared and compressed using a single-punch tablet press, varying in contents of: ethyl cellulose and microcrystalline cellulose. After comparing the physical properties of the drug compositions with drug dissolution profiles, it was found that formulation 4 showed optimal results. Tablets from formulation 4 had suitable weight, did not crack or collapse during hardness and friability tests, and exhibited desirable dissolution characteristics. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the ratio of ethyl cellulose to microcrystalline cellulose is crucial in formulating hydrophobic matrices via direct compression, with an optimal ratio of 1:1. Also, to achieve optimal prolonged release of the drug, the hydrophobic polymer should be added in a 1:2 ratio in comparison with the API (active pharmaceutical ingredient). In summary, the experiment identified an optimal tablet formulation (formulation 4) and highlighted the importance of specific ratios of cellulose derivatives for desired tablet properties and drug release profiles.
