The aim of my paper is to examine the listening skill more substantially; what listening is; how the listening process takes place. I will try to examine why one of the most important skills is neglected in Hungary and how it could be taught more effectively. In the last part of my paper I would like to illustrate the situation in Hungary with the results of questionnaires, which were administered in an average secondary school. The questionnaires were designed to explore the reasons for the ways in which listening is taught and to elicit opinions about the teaching of listening.hu_HU
