The Bond between Greek Myths and Carol Ann Duffy's Poems
Absztrakt
In my dissertation, I will interpret the meaning of the original Greek myths and its re-evaluation in Carol Ann Duffy’s The World’s Wife. As the “[c]urrent knowledge of these myths is mostly derived from such fairy-story versions” (Graves 11), I found it crucial to highlight different understandings of the same myth. I chose Carol Ann Duffy’s volume, The Worlds Wife, in order to emphasize upon the feminine interpretation rather than reduced it to the background. I am fascinated by, how Duffy’s volume contributes to the transformation of the original descriptions, as it highlights how the original Greek myth is being represented from the female perspective. Hence, it follows exactly the same pattern that I wish to engage in.
