Absztrakt
This thesis provides the strategic analysis of Wizz Air and Flydubai, operating on the low-cost carrier (LCC) approach. The thesis literature provides an overview of air transportation, and then discusses in detail the aspects of low-cost carriers. The methodology provides the analysis tools employed in the thesis to evaluate the strategic management of both companies. The results show that Wizz Air and Flydubai are both quite successful in their respective spheres. Their markets are mostly separate and do not overlap in most cases. Wizz Air’s primary market includes cost-conscious Europeans, while Flydubai provides cheaper flights to connect routes between Dubai and other regional centres. So, their strategies and approaches are different. Moreover, Wizz Air is a publicly traded company based on the London Stock Exchange, while Flydubai is completely owned by the oil-rich government of the UAE. So, there is a 180-degree difference in the political and economic environments of both firms. Yet both have been successful in improving their strength viz a viz regional competitors, as both companies have consistently increased passengers. The results of these provide a useful source to examine the strengths that make their strategic management successful.
