Hypertension represents one of the most frequently encountered cardiovascular conditions. It is a major global issue which has a rapidly increasing prevalence among urban and rural populations. Globally, an estimated number of 7.6 million deaths were attributed to hypertension in 2001. Hypertension continues to be the most significant modifiable risk factor for vascular morbidity and mortality. Therefore, the maintenance of blood pressure within the normal range is considered to be an essential step in the prevention of many potential hypertension-related complications including: cerebrovascular diseases, coronary heart disease, heart failure as well as hypertension-associated chronic renal disease.hu_HU
